Learn how you can bring the classics to life! Quintessence Director of Education, Adam Pelta-Pauls, a graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama who has performed Shakespeare on stages across four continents, will share his experience and expertise with students as they explore the secret language hidden within the Bard’s work. Whether you’re a local actor who wants to sharpen your verse skills, a longtime Q subscriber interested in digging deeper into the work we do onstage, or anything in between, this is the class for you!

The Phoenix and Turtle Club is an ensemble of young artists dedicated to performing classical works of drama and literature. Held on Saturday mornings, these acting classes explore physical character work, vocal technique, and the creative interpretation of text. Each session culminates in a showcase open to family and friends.
Musical Theatre for Early Artists
(ages 4-6)
Musical Theatre for Early Artists is an exciting intro to musical theatre where students can explore storytelling through dancing, singing, and acting! Using theatre games, engaging music, and familiar stories, students will learn the basics of vocalization, choreography, and staging, all while building confidence, creativity, and social skills. It’s a space for the youngest artists to unleash their imaginations, make new friends, and discover the magic of performance!

Storytellers inc.
(Ages 7-11)
Our popular youth drama class returns, taught by local Philly actor, playwright, and theatremaker Noah Mannix! What makes a good story? How is a story put together? How can we turn a story into a performance? Through creative play and devised theatre games, students in this class will learn the fundamentals of storytelling, working together to create their own original story to present at the end of the course.

broadcasting the bard: Shakespeare for radio
(ages 12-17)
It’s Shakespeare, like you’ve never heard him before! In partnership with local community radio station GTown Radio, students in this class will work directly with Quintessence Theatre’s own Director of Education, Adam Pelta-Pauls, as well as GTown Radio staff, learning how to unlock Shakespeare’s verse and perform for the microphone. The class will culminate in an invited live recording of the students’ scenework, which will be broadcast on GTown Radio the following week! 20% of proceeds from tuition for this class will be donated directly to GTown Radio, a non-profit (501(c)3) organization.
