Quintessence Theatre Camp is part of our mission to develop the next generation of classical theatre lovers. Using theatre games and exploratory exercises to develop an original adaptation of a classical piece of literature, each week ends with a performance. Our focus on the collaborative process allows participants to build confidence, develop character, and experience the theatrical process first-hand.

Phoenix & Turtle Groundlings: Strega Nona

Ages 7-11 | Tuition $350 | 9am - 4pm // July 8 - 12 2024

Witness the magic of theatre at work as your child turns a classic children’s book into a live stage performance! Over the course of one week, campers will participate in theatre games and exercises designed to teach them all the skills necessary to bring Tomie dePaola’s classic folktale adaptation to life. Activities will focus on skills such as critical reading, storytelling, building stage confidence, and the fundamentals of acting. Family and friends are invited to join us at the end of the week for a performance of the campers’ work!

Phoenix & Turtle Shakespeare Players:
As You Like It

Ages 12-17 | Tuition $700 | 9am - 4pm // July 15 - 26 2024

“All the world’s a stage!” A great session for Shakespeare newbies and veterans alike, our summer teen Shakespeare intensive is back to teach your camper all they need to know to break down a Shakespearean text. Over the course of their two weeks, campers will fill their actor’s toolbox with skills for learning verse, text work, character development, and more, and then apply those skills by performing an abbreviated As You Like It. Families and friends are invited to the performance on the Sedgwick stage at the end of the session!

Phoenix & Turtle WORKSHOP:
Musical Theatre Technique

Ages 12-17 | Tuition $350 | 9am - 4pm // July 29 - AUGUST 2 2024

“If music be the food of love, play on!” Over the course of this week, campers will flex their musical theatre muscles by participating in theatre games and activities aimed at teaching them singing skills, acting skills, and audition technique. Rather than focusing on one specific musical, this session is an opportunity for campers to focus on themselves and improve their own technique. Campers will present their newly acquired skills in a small showcase at the end of the week, so family and friends can see the work they’ve done!
