Elemental Recitation:

The Witch of Edmonton

John Ford, Thomas Dekker, and William Rowley's The Witch of Edmonton.

Quintessence continues its Elemental Recitation series with a rehearsed reading of Ford, Dekker, and Rowley's The Witch of Edmonton. Heralded as "probably the most sophisticated treatment of domestic tragedy in the whole of Elizabethan-Jacobean drama," The Witch of Edmonton dramatizes the real-life persecution of Elizabeth Sawyer, a supposed "witch" in the small English village of Edmonton.

Elemental Recitation offers a closer look at the origins of our favorite playtexts and offers parallels to our mainstage season. Experience a one-night-only gathering of local professional actors who will read the play on the Sedgwick stage.
