SHAW’S
THE doctor’s dilemma
May 4, 2026 @ 7pm
For the first time since the pandemic, Quintessence restarts its Elemental Recitations series with a rehearsed reading of George Bernard Shaw’s The Doctor’s Dilemma. Heralded by Shaw himself as the greatest satire on medicine since Molière’s The Hypochondriac, join us on Monday May 4th at 7pm at 7pm, to hear an ensemble of Philadelphia’s finest actors read the play aloud. The Doctor’s Dilemma questions who should receive medical treatment, and should one's profession, wealth or state of health dictate who receives treatment first. Shaw subtitled the play "A Tragedy," but it is actually a satire of doctors, medical ethics, and the importance of art. The cast includes: Brooke Behmke, Kevin Bergen, Taylor Congdon, Lee Thomas Cortopassi, Tyler Elliott, Rafi Mills, Paul Parente, Marcia Saunders, Steve Wright and Michael Zlabinger.
